English Community

The Penn State Mont Alto English Program offers students a close-knit community, rich with opportunities to interact with other English students and with the larger campus community.

Some of the opportunities available to English Majors are:

International English Honor Society

The Mont Alto chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, The International English Honor Society, was chartered in spring of 2005. Membership in the Honor Society is a prestigious sign of accomplishment and commitment. Prospective new members are invited to join early in the fall semester. To join the Honor Society, a student must:

  1. Have completed three semesters of college work
  2. Have completed two English courses beyond the 15/30/202 level
  3. Have a 3.0 gpa in English courses
  4. Rank in the top 35% of his/her class

Active Membership is open to all students who meet the requirements.

The Fourth Wall ~ Penn State Mont Alto's Student-run Newspaper

Students gain valuable experience and add the their resumes by writing and working on The Fourth Wall, a student-run, student-written, student-edited, and student-published periodical.

Students working on The Fourth Wall may also earn credit by enrolling in ENGL 110, a 1-credit newswriting practicum offered through the English program.

The Penn State Mont Alto community includes an English Club available to all students attending the Mont Alto campus.

The English Club hosts trips, stages on campus events, and provides an outlet for all students interested in English.
